Russia: Blagoveschensk, Vladivostok - December

Blagoveschensk has always been on my bucket list - a quaint town nestled on the border of Heihe, a Chinese city. The Amur River separates these two enchanting cities, offering a captivating view of the other side while strolling along the embankment:

When the river freezes over in the winter, the Russian border post is stationed right on the ice. A small hut serves as a resting place for soldiers, adding to the unique charm of the location:

Blagoveschensk embodies the essence of a typical Russian settlement deep within the Siberian wilderness. However, its proximity to China brings a delightful fusion of cultures. Supermarkets are adorned with Chinese products, ranging from beer and snacks to fruits. Moreover, a handful of Chinese eateries cater to those seeking a taste of authentic cuisine.

The Chinese part of the border feels tantalizingly close, as it reveals itself from the waterfront promenade, regardless of the weather:

Blagoveschensk beckons with its unique blend of Russian charm and its proximity to China, creating a captivating experience that lingers in the heart and mind:

Blagoveschensk is slightly off the Trans-Siberian Railway, so you need to take a bus to get there. A train trip is very comfortable and cozy. Sitting inside the train that goes through the frigid tundra is very pleasant:

The trip offers an opportunity to marvel at the beauty of the surroundings as the train eventually reaches Vladivostok, the final stop on the Trans-Siberian route.

Although our time in the city was brief, we were captivated by its allure before promptly boarding a plane back home.

The breathtaking views along the way were truly unforgettable:
